We have a strong school choir who perform at many school events and competitions.
In addition to core music for all students, we have additional music tuition available to students who wish to advance in performance music. Depending on the number of students, we offer tuition in vocals, guitar, drums, keyboard, ukulele and bass.

Melville Intermediate was the first Enviroschool in NZ in 1993. This is now a national scheme. Our Biotechnology garden, complete with hydroponics and worm farms are the centre of our Enviroschool activity. We promote sustainability throughout the school. We have recently confirmed our Bronze and Silver Award status and in 2022 will be seeking the Gold Award. Enviro monitors play an important role in our school
Students with non-English speaking backgrounds participate in individual and small group programmes daily to improve communication skills in English.
We continue the tradition of having a strong kapa haka group in the school with professional and highly skilled tutors.
